The essay is the cheapest part of the application and the most valuable.

For scale, my most expensive package is $599, and the merit offers one of my students reported came to hundreds of times that. These are the strongest results my students have shared with me, not what every student should expect, and the essay was one part of each application, alongside the grades, the activities and everything else they brought to it.

Merit scholarships are decided on essays. So is admission to the schools that hand them out. Grades and test scores are finished by senior year and there is nothing left to do about them, but the essay is still sitting there, unwritten, and it is the one piece of the application a student can still change.

These are figures students reported to me themselves, and every screenshot below is the message they came in. I cannot promise anyone a scholarship, and nobody honest can. What I can tell you is that this is where the money gets decided, and it is the part most families spend the least time on.

Students saying it out loud.

“You’ve really helped, like, really. Thank you so much.”
“Thank you so much, by the way. You really do help with structure.”
“I forgot to tell you that I got into A&M. I heard a few days ago, so I was excited.”
“I’m super happy with how it turned out. You really helped me put all the pieces together and make it flow well.”
“Thank you so much. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
“It’s been great working with you too. I really appreciate it, it’s helped a lot.”
“You’ve helped me so much keeping me on track with everything. I think if I didn’t have you, I’d probably just still be on my personal essay.”
“My essay has definitely improved so much… I showed it to my AP Lit teacher, and she really liked it.”
“I think that one session of this helped a lot, because I’ve tried other coaching things and I’ve also tried brainstorming myself and I just can’t.”
“Thank you so much for helping. I think honestly, this helped clarify so many specific things.”
“Thank you so much. You made the application process so much less stressful for me.”
“I definitely like where my essay is going, and I think this has helped a lot… Now seeing where it can actually go and the conclusion, I think it’s going to be good for my application.”
“Thank you so much. What you’re adding in is really good. I’m really enjoying writing this.”
“I’m so excited. Thank you so much for your help. I really, really needed strong essays.”
“This has been so helpful. It’s so nice to know that someone else has gone over it and actually thinks it’s good.”
“I wouldn’t have executed this essay so well without you.”
“You were so helpful.”

The last thing seven students said.

These are unedited. Each one is the last few seconds of a real coaching call, at the moment the student said thank you. Their side of the screen is blurred and their name is hidden, so you hear them rather than watch them. The line under each clip is exactly what they said. Press play.
